Ms. Kumba Philip-Joe

Lancet Young Leader for Global Mental Health - Liberia

Kumba is from Liberia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. She has worked as a coordinator of the Enhanced Well Child Care Program, which was designed to attend the medical needs of teenagers and their babies; since April 2013, Kumba and her team have also provided social and emotional support to over 600 teen mothers and families in Liberia.

As well as serving as the Vice President of the Liberia chapter of the Young African Leadership Initiative, she volunteers at Mental-Care Liberia, helping young people understand and take mental health issues seriously.
Kumba is driven by her passion to help humanity, and is especially motivated to help the younger generation explore ways of becoming positive agents of change in their community, and the wider world.
